Dear
Students:
I would
like to take this opportunity to welcome you warmly to the TISB family.
You are about to join one of the finest international schools in India and the
prospect of many happy years here is exciting, isn’t it? Here you will
have all the ingredients for success: unparalleled facilities for every sort of
sporting, theatrical, cultural activity, vast grounds and open spaces for
recreation, superb teachers who are highly experienced and trained in
delivering the IGCSE and IB syllabi, great food and an excellent social
atmosphere where courtesy, kindness, industriousness and ambition are our
hallmarks. Such virtues are at the heart of any great school and it is
important for me to state that to you at the very outset.
As you
undoubtedly know, the students who graduate from TISB go to the greatest
universities worldwide. There they study collectively a vast number of
subjects, and each year the band of subjects chosen becomes wider and wider as
our curriculum broadens and deepens in the world-class context of the
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. What I mean to say to you
is that you will seize opportunities in the global community, you will achieve
your ambitions and pursue your dreams to their uttermost ends so long as here
at school you apply yourselves keenly to your studies and draw strength and
roundness from the wide array of extracurricular activities on offer.
Take advantage of all the advantages given to you and you will do the school
and yourselves proud.
This year
has already been a tremendous success. The students passing out this year
have attracted over USD 2.8 million in scholarship money from the finest
universities around the world. Our IB results were among the very best in
The key
aspects of the character of TISB can be summarized easily: we stand for
academic excellence, for education of the whole person beyond the curriculum,
within a framework of ethical, disciplined, caring teaching that goes back
thousands of years in
Education
is the only thing that no one can take away from you. It resides in your
soul and it is yours for life. Cherish it, nurture it, make it
grow. It will be your companion for the rest of your days and will enrich
every aspect of your existence.
Therefore
I would recommend that you are never idle. Develop your tastes in
reading; expand your horizons; research new subjects; deepen your understanding
of subjects you are interested in; take advantage of travel opportunities when
they arise; return to subjects and topics which troubled you this year and make
every effort to master them; initiate a project on a subject of interest to
keep your mind active and to give yourself a sense of purpose and achievement
during the holidays; make plans for the future; set yourself some written goals
for next year. Remember that initiative is always rewarding, but idleness
never is.
On the other hand, ensure that you get the most out of your time with your families; that you have plenty of fun together, get plenty of exercise and enjoy plenty of rest, since the coming year will be full of challenges and excitement.
To whet
your appetite for what is to come, I’ll provide you with some highlights from
next year’s calendar. We are planning cultural trips for all year groups
to Goa, trekking trips to Coorg and to the Himalayas, plays, concerts and other
cultural events, student exchanges to
TISB
prides itself on the quality of its international educational programme and I
really do believe there is no better school in
